Possible expanded construction hours for the Orangethrope/Tustin Bridge

Yesterday, members of the board met with the city engineer (?) and Tresa Oliveri from OCTA regarding a proposal from the construction company working on the Orangethorpe/Tustin Bridge. They have reported that there was a miscalculation in how long it would take to build the bridge and they would like to request a possible 60 days of extended construction time in order to catch up and finish the bridge by its April 2016 planned completion date.

The extended hours would be from about 5:30 in the morning until 10 at night as compared to our current 7 am to 8 pm construction period. The construction company believe that without this 60 day expanded hours option the bridge would not be completed until December 2016 and they would have to pay the OCTA and other organizations late penalties and renegotiate easement deals with the autodealership across the street and with the rail companies.

The current stipulations if approved from the city representative said that they would not be able to do any work that exceeded a specific lumin (brightness) or decibel limit during these extended hours including jack hammering, drilling, pile driving etc.

The city rep said he is trying to get a exact number of days they believe they would need to work these extended hours but has not has a response yet. He has not fully decided whether to approve the extended time, but would need to propose it to city council at next Tuesdays meeting.

The board expressed strong concerns about the extra noise and light in the early morning and late evening and asked why the construction team wasn't using all the time they currently could be working (namely that they tend to leave around 3 pm) to keep on schedule.

If you have additional concerns about this proposal, you can attend the city council meeting next Tuesday and let them know how you feel.
